Post 10: English Language Challenges

Hi guys!! This is my last blog, which marks the end of my English classes.

In this last blog of the class I must confess that English classes have been really interesting and have helped me a lot of to understand the language and specially to practice it. The blogs were very fun and the “listening” were challenging for me, especially because of actor's accents. Nevertheless it's a good way to practice and to prepare for future work.

Thanks to Professor Lourdes and her classes, my English has improved a lot of it used to be at the beginning. However, I think I have to keep practicing my "speaking", mostly I need to improve how express my ideas (because I'm sooooo shy and it's hard for me) and my pronunciation.

At first, I thought that writing a blog in English classes would be a bit boring, but I was very wrong. Really I liked many of the subjects that I wrote. Besides, blogs has helped me a lot: taught me to write things in different ways, express my ideas in a more fluid, also in my vocabulary and grammar.

I think that knowing English is an important part in the relation of the most people in The Earth. Not just to communicate with another person who doesn’t speak your language, but also for to do most of thing in day to day, as: find information in Internet, listen music or follow escape's instructions. This is examples of how important is English in everyone’s life. For example, I use English to find information on foreign websites, read books that haven't been translated into Spanish yet or understand the lyrics of a song.

Well. This is my last blog, so I have to say goodbye. Thanks you very much for your time and for your comments.

Post 9: Year 2014. Good and Bad points

Hi guys: Today I will talk about good and bad points of this year.

Compared to other years (especially with last year), this year has been pretty good. Many good things have happened to me (and I'm very grateful for that), which is a very rare appearance to happen in my life, because usually I have a lot of bad luck. Today I can be smiling while I'm writing this blog, principally because of that problems in my family are over and our financial problems were resolved.

In relation to I expected to do this year, I feel quite satisfied and although there are still goals that I have not fulfilled, everything has gone wonderfully. During the first half of this year I've been able to accomplish many of my goals, the most important was to have passed all academic subjects corresponding to the fifth semester of the career that I'm studying. I'm very happy about that, because my mother is very proud of me and that pleases me very much.

On the other hand, the first half of this year has also been very stressful, mainly because I had to do many things. However, I knew make the most of the little free time that I possessed to rest a bit and then I recovered fully when the winter holidays came.

Thanks to God this semester I have much more free time, which helps me to rest and do things that I had earrings since early this year as: visiting my friends and playing sport. Finally, I also hope pass all my academic subjects as I did in the first half of this year.

Well, this is my assessment of 2014. Thanks for your time.

Post 8: Facebook

Hi guys, today I will talk about the social web Facebook.

I discovered Facebook, thanks to my friends of the secondary, which used daily this web page to communicate with family and friends, play some games and notice about the latest news. At first I wasn't very interested, and was rather reluctant to the idea of create a session in such websites, because I prefer talking to people in person or by telephone, rather through a computer screen. But due to the insistence of my friends, which they were trying to explain me that homeworks in groups were easier to perform by this way (Yes, my friends are very liers!), I ended up giving in and created a user account at 2010.

As time passed, I was still not interested in this website and I just used it to find out news about school. But it all ended when summer and holidays arrived, and leisure and boredom with them. I tried to find a way to ride out this doing many things as playing football or basketball with my friends, watching some movies, cycling, reading a lot of books, and even sleeping. However this wasn’t enough, then Facebook came to my rescue. And How? You wonder yourself. Well, thanks to its games.

Currently, I still think that the best way to communicate with another person is speaking personally. However, Facebook greatly facilitates communication for those people who cannot otherwise communicate other than by chat. On the other hand, one of the things I like about Facebook is that it reminds me the birthdays dates of my friends.

Bye everyone and thanks for your time!

Post 7: How green are you?

Hi guys, today I will talk about the environment and their relationship with people.

Good Environmental Practices (GAP) is a set of simple operations that involve a change in the attitude and behavior of daily activities, causing a friendly relationship with the environment. Today, there are many methods to learn about this topic, such as nature documentaries, websites and environmental journals. In addition, many kindergartens and primary schools teach and introduce children in GAP. In my case, recently I know about this topic thanks to professors of my career. They taught me that thanks to a simple action as generate knowledge and provide tools for changing habits, we can build more friendly workplaces with their environment, favoring the preservation of this, through an efficient rational use of natural resources, water care and energy saving.

Furthermore, recycling is very important, because thanks to it we can change materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution and water pollution by reducing the need for conventional waste disposal, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Personally, I like to recycle. Mainly, I recycle sorting my garbage into organic matter, paper, cardboard, glass and metal, and then throwing them in different trash cans (if it's available). Addition, with my family we perform many other environmental friendly actions, such as using biodegradable bags and returnable bottles, using paper on both sides, reduce the use of toxic sprays, and give away clothes that no longer fit us. On the other hand, when I have to get somewhere (which is not found far enough), I try to get there walking or cycling, as I think that if I have healthy legs probably I should use them.

Honestly, I think that our society lacks initiative, this is mainly due to the limited information they have, they don't know that with single simple actions (they can do or not do) them can enormously improve the quality of our environment. Because of this reason, I would like to be part of an eco-organization to teach people about the environment and how we should care for it and protect it.

Bye!

Post 6: Genetic Modified Organisms

Hi guys, today I will talk about genetically modified organisms (GMO).

You are probably wondering: What is a GMO? Well, for those who have never heard of them, GMOs are organisms whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. Among the organisms that have been genetically modified are included bacteria, insects, plants and animals.

On the other hand, GMOs are the source of genetically modified foods and are also widely used in scientific research and to produce goods other than food. Respectively, genetically modified foods (or GM foods) are foods produced from organisms that have had specific changes introduced into their DNA using the methods of genetic engineering. These techniques have allowed for the introduction of new traits as well as a far greater control over a food's genetic structure than previously afforded by methods such as selective breeding and mutation breeding.

GMOs are used in many topics as biological and medical research, production of pharmaceutical drugs, experimental medicine and agriculture.

In forest terms, genetic engineering is mainly used on trees and plants for scientific research or for production of different crops. Currently marketed genetically engineered crops have traits such as resistance to pests, resistance to herbicides, accelerated growths, or production of valuable goods such as wood and food. Products under development include crops that are able to thrive in environmental conditions outside the species' native range or in changed conditions in their range.

The truth is that on this issue I have a split opinion. On the one hand, in some topics I agree that genetic improvement is performed, since many benefits are obtained. However, in other areas like agriculture for example, I'm not so agree, because to get some benefits, such as the duration of fruits and vegetables against rot, and obtaining good shapes and colors, other equally important aspects worsen, as taste of foods.

Post 5: My future job

Hi guys, today I will talk about my possible future job.

When I was younger and was in school, I had some crazy ideas as starting to study paleontology. As you know, it's almost impossible to have a job of this kind in our country, so I decided to pursue a career related to the environment, since they would be my passport to be in direct contact with nature. So I decided to study Forestry and today I am in third year.

When I started to study Forestry, I had many ideas about what I wanted to do in the future. By now I have the intention to work in some institutions that focus on to study and to investigate the relationships and interactions of ecosystems with the population, and sustainable generation of products and services that are defendants by them.

I'm very interested in this, because I want to work closely with the population that most are affected by the generation of products and services, and for the loss of any of these. I want to work with people and make them part in the decision-making, through surveys and interviews to learn their preferences, with the purpose to make the best decisions.
Also, I would like to work on projects related to the restoration of degraded areas through revegetation and wildlife.

Bye everyone and thanks for your time!

Post 4: Animals

Hi guys, today I will talk of my favorite animal: the gray wolf.

Maybe the gray wolf is one of the world’s best known and well researched animals, with probably more books written about it than any other wildlife species.

I know a lot about wolves, for example I know that the gray wolf is a canid native to the wilderness and remote areas of North America, Eurasia and Africa. One of its characteristic is that its winter fur is long and bushy, and predominantly a mottled gray in color, although nearly pure white, red, or brown to black also occur. The gray wolf is typically an apex predator throughout its range, it feeds primarily on large ungulates, though it also eats smaller animals, livestock, carrion, and garbage.

The main reason that I like the wolves is that the world looks at them suspiciously. The world sees it and rejects it, and wolves never cry or die by that rejection, but rather show us their fangs and attack us if necessary, without fear of lose in fight, without fear of death.

That is his nature, is mistrustful by the own distrust; the wolves walks with calm steps, knows when it needs to eat, knows that it's alone with its pack, knows that when it need someone, no one will be there for it. It's lonely, is strengthened it with moonlight, and it howls with all his might to feel alive.

Simply… I love wolves.
